2010 United Way Kickoff Cookoff

Friday, September 10th, the SHA participated once again in the United Way Kickoff Cook-off. This year we entered the appetizer category with a deep-fried Toasted Ravioli in Marinara Sauce. We placed THIRD out of eight competitors! We couldn’t cook fast enough to keep up with the demand. We were told to anticipate serving 500, but with over 1,200 people in attendance, we ran out before the end of the hour!

There were 39 different participants in the Cookoff, all from local companies and organizations, who gathered at the Central New York Regional Market to display their cooking talent. The food-based event, open to the public for a $5 fee, highlighted the opening of the annual United Way fundraising campaign.
The Syracuse Housing Authority chose the appetizer category from eight different food categories, including vegetarian, wings, chili, international, potato and pasta, and chocolate desserts.
